I caught up on my Newsweek reading this morning while sitting in a waiting room. Daniel Lyons confesses in Time to Hang Up the Pajamas that he made no money while blogging furiously on his "fake" blog about Steve Jobs. Even though he at one time had 1.5M people visit his blog in 1 month, he only made a little over $1k. Poor guy.
I scanned some of the comments. Bloggers nailed him. You gotta be real, and your content serve your readers. Can't get in it for the money alone. And some commenters are doing both - blogging and making money from it.
I appreciate Lyons' candor tho. There's too much hype about monetizing blogs. For myself, I'm happy to be writing a post of substance (I hope it's taken that way!) every week. It works well for me to follow my own judgment. Will write for the sheer joy of it, at least for now.
Do you care about making money through blogging? Do you think it's possible for you? Whatcha think?

Some people would care because they can see how possible it is. And yes, there could be too much hype about monetizing blogs, but we must admit that those who use it find it helpful… There could be other people who don’t have job today but earn through blogging. It’s fun and helpful in many ways.

It definitely work for some bloggers, but it can't be taken lightly. Easy to crash and burn if you don't provide value. Thanks for stopping by, Alice!

It’s true that blogging also involves sharing your opinion, but it’s very important that whenever you’ll get to state facts, be sure that they’re facts! It’s easy to tell that it’s the truth, but some readers can’t just believe a person in an instant! Blogging requires honesty, and honesty can gain you a lot of followers, along with credibility as well ;)
